the best spaghetti sauce recipeTo me, the best spaghetti sauce recipe is normally based on childhood memories. However, even though my Mum made this all the time when I was a child and has passed it down to me, I still think it is like magic in your mouth when I make it today.

It must be the best spaghetti sauce recipe ever, as I have never had a complaint when I have made this dish. The trick is to use a lot of tomatoes. (Tip – You can even use more than the recipe says.)

You can either cut everything really small for a finer textured sauce or leave it chunky, depending on your preference. Either way, it tastes great.

This recipe is a great option for vegetarians, as there is no meat in it and the cheese is optional.

Spaghetti Mexicana – The Best Spaghetti Sauce Recipe (According to me)

This recipe makes 4 servings.

You will need:

2 cups of cooked spaghetti (Click here if you want to know how to cook perfect pasta)

1 sliced onion

2 tbsps oil

1/4 level tsp allspice

1/4 level tsp ground ginger or cloves

a good dash of cayenne

1 level tsp curry powder (mild if making for children)

1 1/2 cups of sliced tomatoes

1 heaped tbsp chutney

Grated Cheese (optional)

Method:

Chop the onion finely and fry it in the oil for a few minutes.

Add the spice, cayenne and tomatoes and cook until soft.

Add the curry powder and the chutney.

Stir in the spaghetti and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes.

Serve very hot sprinkled with grated cheese.

That my friends is the best spaghetti sauce recipe ever.

Tip – If you have some time on your hands, you can caramelise the onions for an even tastier sauce. This simply means cooking the onions over a low heat for a long time until they are golden.

I like to cook just about all of my food from scratch and using fresh ingredients. My family loves it when I make my spaghetti sauce.

I like my sauce kind of chunky. I am going to have to try making your spaghetti sauce recipe.

I have never had ginger or cloves in my sauce. After looking over the recipe, I bet this sauce is spicy.

Yes it is spicey, but not overly much. It is a great comfort food for the winter though.

    Wow!

The Spaghetti Mexicana sounds really yummy. I love spaghetti and trying different sauces and side dishes. The pepper and curry added to this spaghetti sauce would really set the world on fire.

Spicy spaghetti is something I really haven’t tried before, so I’m definitely going to give this recipe a go as I love spicy food.

You will enjoy it Darren. Although the recipe looks hot, it is not, just spicey. If you want it hot just add more curry powder.

This is a very interesting looking spaghetti sauce recipe. I have never seen spices like cloves & allspice and especially not curry powder go in the sauce.

However, I love curry powder so you have peaked my interest. What kind of chutney do you recommend? Is that mainly for some sweetness?

Here in South Africa, Mrs Balls is the best chutney, but I am not sure what the rest of the world is using. Yes it gives it a touch of sweetness.

Oh, yum! I’ve never seen such a collection of diverse flavors all in one spaghetti sauce! It’s like a league of nations came tromping through the kitchen and dropped some flavor into the mix.

It sounds absolutely scrumptious! I think I’m going to try it this weekend!

Did your mom invent it or is it a recipe that’s been handed down through the generations?

Strangely it was a recipe found in an old housewives book that she just jazzed up a bit.
