How To Make Peri Peri Chicken

Here is how to make Peri Peri Chicken using a delicious recipe by chef Bernice Warner.

This recipe serves 2 and this is a great meal to make as the recipe includes the sauce recipe as well as the flatbread recipe to go with the chicken.

So Let’s Make Peri Peri Chicken

You Will Need:

1 tbs butter

200g boneless chicken breast with the skin removed and cubed

1 garlic clove crushed

2 tablespoons of peri peri sauce (see the recipe below)

the juice of 1/2 a lemon

125ml cooking cream

salt and pepper to taste

Parsley for garnish


In a very hot pan, melt the butter and fry the cubed chicken pieces until golden brown on both sides.

Add the garlic and peri peri sauce and cook for another minute.

Add the cream and lemon juice.

Season with salt and pepper and allow to simmer for 5 – 7 minutes until cooked.

Serve with pan fried bread (recipe below) or crusty rolls.

Homemade Peri Peri Sauce

You Will Need:

1/2 cup of white vinegar

1/2 cup of freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice

1/2 cup olive oil

40ml chili powder

40ml paprika

40ml salt

40ml chopped garlic

10 birds eye chilies, finely chopped. You can keep the seeds in for the heat.


Put all the ingredients in a food processor and blend them until well combined.

This sauce will improve with time and will be fierier after standing for a while.

Pan-Fried Bread

1 cup of cake flour

5ml baking powder

15ml olive oil

125ml yogurt

Pinch of salt


Mix all the dry ingredients and stir in the wet ingredients. you might need to add a drop of water if you find the dough a bit dry.

Roll out the dough to approximately 1cm thick on a lightly floured surface and cut into rounds.

Fry in a medium to high frying pan with some cooking oil until golden on both sides and soft to the touch.

This is great to serve with your peri peri chicken.
