My Favourite Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

chocolate chip cookies recipeThis is one of our favourite chocolate chip cookies recipe and was given to us by a friend at my daughter’s church.

It is a bit pricey to make as it does contain a lot of chocolate (and nuts), but it is well worth it.

The recipe makes about 120 chocolate chip cookies, so plan to spend about three hours in the kitchen, unless you have a super-sized stove.

Also beware if you are watching your weight, as they are very moreish.

If you don’t need so many cookies, simply halve the recipe.

This is great to make if you need to take a batch of biscuits on holiday with you. The family will love them.

Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

You Will Need:

5 cups (1 250 ml) of oatmeal

2 cups (500 ml) soft butter or margarine

2 cups (500 ml) brown sugar

2 cups (500 ml) white sugar

4 cups(1 000 ml) flour

4 eggs

2 tsp (10 ml) bicarbonate of soda

2 tsp (10 ml) baking powder

2 tsp (10 ml) vanilla essence

1 tsp (5 ml) salt

680 g chocolate chips

500 g grated Cadbury chocolate

3 cups (375 ml) chopped nuts (optional)

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.

Blend the oatmeal into a fine powder.

Cream the butter and both the white and brown sugar.

Add eggs and vanilla.

Mix in the flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda.

Add the chocolate chips, grated chocolate and nuts.

Roll into balls and place two inches apart on a cookie sheet.

Bake for ten minutes.

When the chocolate chip cookies come out of the oven they will be a bit soft, so let them cool a little before moving them, or they will break.

I need to let my wife know about these cookie and biscuit recipes they look and sound pretty good. I didn’t know about the lemon peels in the bathtub, is that a fact about making your skin smoother? Are you going to add more cookie recipes? It’s a nice little website you have there, short and to the point.

This website was mainly started to add in and save all my favorite recipes, as well as share them with others. Over time I will be adding more recipes, as I try them out and test.

      Thanks for stopping by Christopher.

    Hello Mergie,

Thanks for your recipe! I was thinking about baking cookies on Christmas for my family. I have literally NO experience with baking and I’m glad I found your website.

Definitely can’t go wrong with chocolate chip cookies! I’m thinking about making them into different shapes like Christmas trees haha. What do you think?

    Kind Regards,

I am not sure this is the recipe to make the cookies into shapes, as the mixture spreads while it cooks. That is why the recipe suggests rolling the chocolate chip cookie dough into balls as they flatten into circles in the oven. Try one cut in a shape and see how it turns out.

It looks like a great recipe for chocolate chip cookies! I will have to try it. I wish however that margarine would not be included as an alternative since margarine not only tastes awful but is very bad for you nutritionally and has the aftertaste of plastic. I just love the background picture of your website as it is the perfect theme for a food focused blog.

Thanks for stopping by Elan. Butter is definitely the better option here, but sometimes it is so expensive we have no option but to use margarine.  I just like to let readers know that the recipe works well with both butter and margarine.
