Recipe For Savory Biscuits

Here is a basic recipe for savory biscuits. This recipe makes about 60 biscuits. There are also 5 other variations that you can add to the mix to delight your visitors.

You Will Need:

180g (300ml) cake flour

5ml baking powder

2ml salt

125g (125ml) butter

30ml grated Parmesan

125g grated Cheddar

15ml lemon juice


  • Sift dry ingredients into a bowl and rub in the butter and cheeses.
  • Add lemon juice to form a soft dough.
  • Cover with cling film and refrigerate for 3 hours.
  • Cut into shapes and bake in a preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Variations For The Recipe for Savory Biscuits

Bacon Slices

Chope 4 rashers of streaky bacon and fry until crisp. Add to the cheese dough. roll into a thick sausage shape and cover with cling film and place in the fridge for 3 hours.

Slice and bake on a greased baking tray for 10 – 15 minutes until golden brown.

Curried Cheese Straws

Add 15ml curry powder to the cheese dough. Leave in the fridge for 3 hours, then roll dough into thin sausage shapes. Cut into 10cm lengths. Bake on a greased baking tray until golden brown.

Chilli Twists

Add 10ml dried crushed chilies to the cheese dough. Leave in the fridge for 3 hours. Roll out onto a floured surface and cut strips 2 cm wide and 15 cm long. Twist two strips together and place twists onto a greased baking sheet. Bake until golden.

Olive Balls

Remove cheese dough from the fridge. Roll into small balls.

Place one stuffed green olive in the center of each dough ball making sure that the dough surrounds the olive. Place balls onto a greased baking sheet and bake until golden brown.

Cheesy Seed Rounds

Remove cheese dough from the fridge and roll out onto a floured surface. Cut out circles using a round cookie cutter. Place on a greased baking tray and sprinkle with poppy or sesame seeds. Bake until golden brown.

    I loved the banana bread recipe on this site. I wondered about the quantity of these biscuits …and thought yours would have to share them or make a smaller quantity. At least they can be frozen.

    I think its encouraging your amount and quantity that you have put into this project.I started a site based on vegetarian things and recipes. Yours is vast I will keep the link and use the banana bread recipe ..i cannot eat sugar too much but will just use the fruit that will have enough sugar in it for me.

    These savory biscuits are a great alternative to sweet treats.

      Thanks for stopping by Anthea, and yes you can leave out the sugar on any of the recipes here, or even substitute with an artificial alternative.

    Hello there! This is an interesting recipe. I always imagine biscuits of this shape (in the beginning of your post) to be sweet and buttery. I have a hard time imagining what a savory flavored one would taste like. I am curious about what these actually taste like though, so I might try making this later in the week. The ingredients you listed sound like it could be a good combination. Thanks for creating this!

    Nice, it’s another snack that you can prepare ahead of time and when you’ve got company you have something to offer!
    5 Varieties also good in a sense as everyone likes different things, and the variety makes sure that everyone is happy.
